GROUP CLASSES

Group lessons are great for beginner to intermediate skateboarders because they can learn from other skaters around them and observe the specific techniques being taught by their instructor. All JRSA group class can be found on the main calendar page.

SUMMER CAMPS

BEGINNER CURRICULUM 

LEVEL 1

SKATEBOARD ANATOMY

Objective: Here you learn about each component of the skateboard and it’s function. You will also learn how to tune and maintain your skateboard.

LEVEL 2

SAFE SKATEBOARDING

Objective: Here we’re going to learn all about safety. From how to properly wear equipment – including helmet and pads, to learning how to fall correctly so as to avoid getting injured.

LEVEL 3

ORIENTATION & STANCE

Objective: Students learn all about “the stance” and the difference between goofy & regular footed stance.
After understanding what each stance means, we are going to help you select your stance which will prepare for the start of your journey.

LEVEL 4

8 STEPS OF STANCE

Objective: The “8 Steps” is a methodology that we created to help with foot placement and balance. It will teach you the following 4 skills:

  1. Get On The Board
  2. How To Push
  3. How To Stop
  4. How To Jump Off

LEVEL 5

YOUR FIRST PUSH!

Objective: Here we are gong to apply what we learned from the 8 steps method and go for our first push!

LEVEL 6

HOW TO STOP

Objective: There are a few ways to stop a skateboard, for now we are going to concern ourselves with two of the most common; jumping or bailing and using the back foot to stop.

LEVEL 7

TURNING & CARVING

Objective: Learning how To Turn Your board or “Carve”
Now that you are up and running and pushing around and also know a little about stopping, we are going to show you how to turn your board. This is were things get really fun! 
LEVEL 8

NAVIGATION

Objective: Now that we know how to carve, it’s time to see how we get around obstacles, let’s see how you do with chalk lines and cones.

LEVEL 9

TAILWORK

Objective: This lesson we are going to learn how to manipulate our board and body by working on a variety of movements using the tail of the board.

THE SKATEPARK

Objective: Let’s learn some basics on the banks and become aware of some of the etiquette of the park.

LEVEL 11

RAMPS & TRANSITIONS

Objective: Here we learn how to pump and generate speed by learning how to use the transitions. The ramps, bowls and other obstacles require lot’s of work, but we know you got this!

BOWLS & TRICKS

Objective: Carving and bowl skating is the soul of skateboarding. This will be you last set of skills before moving on to the immediate level. Congrats!

ADVANCEMENT

Congratulations! Once you have moved through the beginner curriculum you are ready to move on to more difficult skills…
